Notes

The 1987 Song Contest resurrected the prize song category, which was previously eliminated in 1965, as a special one-time feature for the centennial year of Kamehameha Schools. Each class' score was based on the performance of both the prize and choice songs.

The prize songs were:
Men – Kani ʻUʻina (arranged by Laura E. Brown)
Women – Waiʻalae (composed by Mekia Kealakai, arranged by Martha Poepoe Hōhū)

* From at least the 1960s to 2006, Song Contest numbering was off by 2 years. The 1987 Contest was billed as the "65th Annual", but because the first Song Contest was held in 1921, it should have been the 67th. The numbering was eventually corrected in 2007, and Hoʻokūkū Hīmeni has retroactively applied these corrections to past contests. However, you will see the old, incorrect numbering used in Song Contest publicity materials until 2006.
